    WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 11, 2022) — Patricia Harrison, president and CEO of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), made the following statement regarding the House and Senate passage of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2022, which includes funding for public media: 

  • CPB Statement on President Biden’s FY23 Budget Request for Public Media

    WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 28, 2022) — Patricia Harrison, president and CEO of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), released the following statement today regarding President Biden’s fiscal year 2023 budget request, which proposes $565 million in FY 2025 for CPB’s advance appropriation; $60 million for the public broadcasting interconnection system and infrastructure; and $29.5 million for the Department of Education’s Ready To Learn program in FY 2023. 

  • Artists to Celebrate Lionel Richie Receiving Library of Congress Gershwin Prize

    The nation’s library, musical artists and American leaders will honor pop music icon Lionel Richie in the nation’s capital on Wednesday, March 9, as he is awarded the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song during an all-star tribute concert.

    The lineup will include performances by previous Gershwin Prize honoree Gloria Estefan, Boyz II Men, Luke Bryan, Andra Day, Chris Stapleton, Miguel, Yolanda Adams, and a special performance by honoree Lionel Richie. Actor and comedian Anthony Anderson will host the event. The concert is by invitation only.

  • Joan Ganz Cooney Center Announces Local Station Youth Content Grant Projects

    NEW YORK (February 28, 2022) — The Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) today announced the selection of 12 public media stations to participate in a grant program to create content by, with, and for tween and teen audiences. As part of the By/With/For Youth: Inspiring Next Gen Public Media Audiences project, each station will receive a $15,000 grant to support their local work with tweens and teens (ages 10-18). 

  • With Boost from CPB, NPR to Ramp Up Coverage of Russian Invasion of Ukraine

    WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 22, 2022) -- NPR is adding staff and resources to cover Russia’s aggression in Ukraine with support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). CPB approved $500,000 in emergency funding to support NPR coverage in the region on Tuesday, as Russian President Vladimir Putin sent troops to re-invade Ukraine’s Donbas region.

  • Corporation for Public Broadcasting Renews Support for Public Media Journalists Association Editor Corps

    WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 21, 2022) – The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) announced today a $115,000 grant to continue the Public Media Journalists Association (PMJA) Editor Corps, which provides short-term editing assistance to public media newsrooms facing significant burdens. The grant will fund the program for one additional year as PMJA develops a plan for sustaining the service.

  • WAMU’s 1A to Launch 'Remaking America' — A Major, Two-Year Reporting Project Covering Threats to America's Democracy

    WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 17, 2022) — "1A," a daily weekday national talk show produced by WAMU and distributed by NPR, announces the upcoming launch of "1A Remaking America" – a major, two-year reporting project covering the threats to America’s democracy. In partnership with several public media stations across the country, this new collaborative project will focus coverage on the growing political divides throughout the country. 

    This reporting project is made possible by a grant totaling $750,000 from The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).  

  • Twin Cities PBS Announces 10 'Facing Suicide' Grants to Help Prevent Suicide in Communities Across the Country

    SAINT PAUL, Minnesota, February 15, 2022 – Twin Cities PBS (TPT) has awarded a total of $165,000 in grants to 10 PBS stations to create suicide prevention initiatives in their communities in collaboration with the national PBS broadcast of "Facing Suicide." The grants, funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), are part of a national Facing Suicide initiative that will harness the power of public media to destigmatize the topic of suicide and equip friends and family to take appropriate action when someone close to them may be at risk.
